Competition: EFL Cup
Market: Brighton win
Odds: 4/11 @ 888sport
Looking to extend on their EFL Cup adventure on Wednesday night, Brighton will make the trip to a struggling Charlton.
Starting with the hosts, suffering another collapse on home soil over the weekend as they were eventually hit with a 2-1 loss at home against Bristol Rovers, Charlton find themselves at the heart of what has become a real nightmare. While the one-time Premier League outfit might have been dreaming of mounting a genuine play-off charge this season, many in their camp are now firmly looking over their shoulder at the drop zone. Coming under real scrutiny on December 7th as they came crashing out of the FA Cup following a 3-1 drumming away at League Two outfit Stockport, the Addicks are without a win from any of their last seven contests across all formats. With that woeful run of form stemming back to November 8th, Charlton have also continued to show some rather glaring issues at the back. Without a clean sheet to their name since way back on October 22nd, the third-tier strugglers should be bracing themselves for a real test here.
As for the visitors, last seen heading into the World Cup’s enforced break with a 2-1 loss against Aston Villa on November 13th, Brighton will be seeking an immediate return to winning ways here. Although the Seagulls might have been disappointed to see Graham Potter make the move to Chelsea back in September, they have largely impressed under new boss Roberto De Zerbi. Extending on their EFL Cup run last month after clinching a stellar 3-1 victory away at a high-flying Arsenal, some around the Amex have their sights set on mounting a famous European charge this season. With their eye-catching flurry this season underlined by a 4-1 romp against Chelsea on October 29th, there is no doubt that the former Shakhtar Donetsk should be smelling a golden chance here. Bagging a 3-1 win when they last made the trip to the Valley back in 2016, it is hard to see anything other than a similar away victory here.
